JPI Climate
Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe
JPI Climate is a collaboration between 17 European countries to coordinate jointly their climate research and fund new transnational research initiatives. Transnational coordination of the research base aims to overcome research fragmentation, to make better use of precious public R&D resources and to facilitate cross border collaboration between top scientists. JPI Climate connects scientific disciplines, enables cross-border research and increases science-practice interaction. By doing this, it is expected that JPI climate significantly contributes to underpinning the European efforts to respond to climate change.

Joint Actions
The 2016 the ERA-NET Cofund "European Research Area for Climate Services" (ERA4CS), was designed to boost the development of efficient Climate Services (CS) in Europe. Parallel with a joint transnational call, ERA4CS additional activities were planned, like mapping of others initiatives at national, European and international levels has aggregated and updated the information related to research for CS. A Report on the synergy and mismatch analysis on Research and Innovation for Climate Services has identified gaps and opportunities for research related to CS, synthesized in 4 recommendations.
In 2018 two new activities started: AXIS and SINCERE. JPI Climate has set up the ERA-NET Cofund AXIS to enhance integration of an array of research disciplines connected to climate research around the common goal to enhance the assessment of potential impacts of climate change on the bio-physical systems and human society. With SINCERE (Strengthening INternational Cooperation on climatE change Research), a coordination and support action on internationalisation, JPI Climate will intensify its international collaboration activities in Africa, Latin America and beyond, while contributing to more cohesion Europe-wide, fostering especially the exchange with Eastern European countries not yet involved in the JPI Climate partnership. NWO and Wageningen University & Research are both partners involved in SINCERE.
